Creating the Look: Pinup
I've wanted to work with Kat Kildare for a long time. She was one of the first girls to respond to my search for models willing to sit in for pinup makeup. Kat's complexion reminds me a bit of Dita, so I thought I'd use that as my inspiration.
I started by priming Kat's face with several primers from M*A*C to minimize dark circles under the eyes. I also applied a spray fixative to hold the makeup application in place.
Using a M*A*C's studio-tech foundation and a foundation brush, I applied a thin layer of base to her whole face. I always like to start with a very flawless skin tone. I used a sponge to dab foundation into the spots that required more coverage.
Using a large blush brush, I smoothed blush onto both of her cheeks. I darkened her eyebrows, sculpting them into a smooth arch. As usual, I applied a dark black liquid-like liner across her upper lash line, pulling it slightly out past the eyelids. I also applied a dark brown underneath to give her eyes a bit of a theatrical look.
I like to apply lipstick on dry lips that don't have any lip balm on them. Especially when the lips are a little dry, M*A*C's lipstick stays in place. After I applied a bit of red lipstick, I added a little balm and a lot of gloss. Always striving for dramatic!
I applied black false eyelashes and gave her eyelashes a curl and double coat of mascara to really create a dramatic eye. I gave her a quick powder with a lighter loose powder than her natural skin color, to give her whole look a bit of drama.
I teased Kat's hair into a large bun at the top her head and pulled down and curled little ringlets around her face! I gently combed everything to give it a very smooth appearance, and sprayed it into place.
When she was done, Kat looked like she was ready to perform a bit of burlesque. I think she looks fabulous, don't you?
